Local Conservation Initiative Support
We are active in conservation efforts that protect the environment and wildlife in our community.
Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTCC)
Riverview Park and Zoo has been a supporter of the OTCC since the beginning when the centre was located in the Dobbin Building. We continue to support one another with shared equipment and supplies, programming and conservation efforts like research, rescuing and rehabilitating injured and orphaned turtles.
This year we were able to help rescue snapping turtle hatchlings found on the property, rehabilitate and release them safely in partnership.
Fish rescue
Peterborough Humane Society, Ontario SPCA, Kawartha Aquariums worked with us to rescue more than 130 pet fish from a Peterborough Home after the owner passed away. Staff from all agencies worked diligently together to relocate the fish to stay at the Riverview Park and Zoo until safe homes were found for each of them.
Wildlife rehabilitation
We supported and assisted with release of two rehabilitated moose near Algonquin Park in Partnership with Ontario Society Protection of Cruelty to Animals.
Education
Riverview partners with Trent University and Fleming College and to run education program annually as well as the local groups.
