Canada's Accredited Zoo and Aquariums (CAZA)

Canada's Accredited Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA) is the charitable organization responsible for regulating animal care and quality of their environments in members' facilities. Its responsibilities include:

  • Regular inspections of Canadian zoos and aquariums
  • Identifying and implementing best practices for animal care
  • Working with governments and animal welfare groups to assist with relocating animals
  • Promoting zoos and aquariums as human agencies in animal welfare, conservation, science and education
  • Awarding and accrediting Canadian facilities for excellence in animal care

Accreditation of Riverview Park and Zoo

Riverview park and zoo has been accredited by CAZA since 1985. The Park and Zoo voluntarily applies for CAZA audits. During the process, we are subject for review based on the education, conservation and animal welfare in our facility. Being accredited is one of our most important achievements. This confirms our facility is held to higher standards and our animals are treated with the best care possible.
