Pathway to Stewardship/Classroom Pets
Pathway to Stewardship
A community based strategy to connect children to nature and help them be concerned citizens inspired to love and care for animals and the environment.
Classroom pet project
Designed and hosted by Riverview Park and Zoo staff, the classroom pet project allows for a teacher and their class to foster a pet from the Zoo for six to eight weeks and learn to take care of the species.
Temporary classroom pets we have available include a couple of species of small aquatic turtles, a tarantula or fish. Classes are given the aquarium, necessary life systems like lamps, pumps and filters, and instructions on how to care for your classroom pet.
An introductory in-class session with the zookeeper will help kick start your classroom pet project. Questions or support are available upon request.
Available spaces in the program are limited, so please reserve your space early.
